disc & drum machining

Are your brakes shuddering when they get hot or are towing a heavy load? Chances are they are suffering from disc thickness variation (DTV). Luckily this doesn’t mean you have to throw away your discs and replace them! We can machine your discs so as to take them back to an original, parallel finish (if within legal specifications).

This also gives new pads - if being fitted - the best chance of bedding in quickly and avoiding brake pad riding up on the lip of the rotor, causing brake squeal and uneven wear.

Similarly to discs, drums can also suffer from high/low spots after prolonged heat cycles, leading to brake shudder. Drums can be machined to rectify this (if within specification), and brake shoes should always be radiused to suit as part of a quality brake job.

We have capabilities to machine most car drums from 7” right up to truck and agricultural applications up to 15”, most can be turned around same day.

flywheel machining

One of the most important aspects when replacing any clutch is to replace or re-face the flywheel. This ensures any transfer material and any hollows or uneveness in the friction surface is removed, and any step is realigned to factory specifications, ensuring correct operation and performance of the new clutch assembly.

Most clutch manufacturers will not warranty a clutch assembly if the flywheel is not machined

Depending on the application, manufacturers can specify either a ground finish, cross-hatch finish or machined finish. We have multiple specialty lathes capable of all 3 finishes, so we’ve got you covered!

We also stock a range of replacement dowell pins in the case they are damaged upon removal.

DISC PAD REFACING

Disc pads badly tapered, or are your race pads too thick for the application? We can reface pads down to your desired thickness, as long as the pads have a flat backing plate. Time and costing varies depending on pad material, contact our staff for more information.
